‘The Boys in the Boat’ is Another Clooney-Directed Clunker

I saw George Clooney’s “The Boys in the Boat” a few weeks ago via screener link, and it doesn’t really work. It’s very conventional. One might easily use the word “vanilla” to describe this film and you’d get a good sense of its overall vibe.

‘Wonka': $3.5 Million in Thursday Previews — $30-$35 Million Weekend Projected

Last night, the Timothee Chalamet starrer “Wonka” took in $3.5 million in previews. The holiday weeks may boost it up, but for now it’s looking at a $30-35 million weekend. “Wonka” is the second widest release of the year, after “Barbie,” as it’s set to open in over 4,000 theaters. The family friendly film will play through New Year’s to decent legs, no doubt.

Pawel Pawlikowski's ‘The Island' is Unlikely to Get Made

This past August, I reported that Pawlikowski was attempting to revive “The Island,” which was supposed to star Joaquin Phoenix and Rooney Mara, after bond companies were refusing to insure it ahead of the SAG strike. The project was scrapped right before the writer’s strike.
