The quota mob groups were surely going to dissect today’s DGA nominees. An advocacy group by the name of “Women in Film” has called out the DGA for lack of female filmmakers in the final five of today’s top category.

Steven Soderbergh just dropped his annual seen/read list for 2022 and his logging shows that he’s watched David Fincher’s ”The Killer” four times in a week during the month of August.

Old-school Francis Ford Coppola is back. I’m not talking about the “Twixt” guy, but rather the madman who made “Apocalypse Now.” That guy.

Blumhouse founder Jason Blum is predicting this year’s Best Picture winner will be S.S. Rajamouli’s “RRR.” He has such passionate admiration for the film that he’s gone to publicly back it over any other contender.

Paul Mescal already landed a primo role in Ridley Scott‘s “Gladiator” sequel, and has now been tapped to replace Blake Jenner in Richard Linklater‘s “Merrily We Roll Along”, according to Above the Line.

The SAG nominations will be announced on Wednesday and you can expect both Cate Blanchett (TÁR) and Michelle Yeoh (Everything Everything Everywhere All At Once) to get nominated for Lead Actress.

The American Society of Cinematographers announced its nominees for the 37th ASC Awards. They are: Roger Deakins (“Empire of Light”), Greig Fraser (“The Batman”), Darius Khondji (“Bardo”), Claudio Miranda (“Top Gun: Maverick”), and Mandy Walker (“Elvis”).

As we had expected on Friday, “M3GAN,” a delightful horror movie from Blumhouse, opened big with $30 million this past weekend. Who had a chance to see it? I’d love to read your thoughts about this peculiar genre picture.

I don’t think “Snake Eyes” is one of the top-tier Brian DePalma films, but it’s sure as hell better than most of the middle films big studios are releasing these days.
