When I compared Damien Chazelle’s “Babylon” to Michael Cimino’s “Heaven’s Gate” last month, I was being very serious.

I don’t write much about television shows, mostly due to not being able to catch up with everything that gets released. It’s either plunge full-on into movies or TV and I’ll always choose the former.

Last weekend, I wasn’t ready to call “Avatar: The Way of Water” a “flop” because that would have been such a foolish trap to embark into.

Most people are aware that 2019 was a great year for movies and the oft-repeated titles whenever that year is mentioned: “Parasite,” “Once Upon A Time in Hollywood,” “The Irishman,” “Uncut Gems,” “Marriage Story,” “Portrait of a Lady on Fire,” “Pain and Glory,” “Joker,” and “Little Women.”

Here’s something absolutely nobody is talking about. Sarah Polley’s “Women Talking” was released in eight locations this weekend and it’s looking like a $52K three-day, $71K four-day total. The film was released in NYC, LA, Toronto, Austin and Chicago. That’s pretty awful.

No word yet on whether a rumored Christian Bale has been confirmed to join Timothee Chalamet in James Mangold’s Bob Dylan biopic, but we do know it is no longer titled “Going Electric.”

At some point in the early summer there was this sense that Daniel Scheinert and Daniel Kwan’s “Everything Everywhere All At Once” would have a tough road ahead in its Oscar hopes.

Netflix is finally on it. They replaced some of their “Pinocchio” FYC billboards in Los Angeles with “All Quiet on the Western Front,” this after a strong shortlist performance this past week.

Sarah Polley’s “Women Talking” was released on Friday. That means I’m reposting my review from this past September’s TIFF. I tried to rewatch this one via screener, but it still felt unwatchable. A total slog to get through.

I haven’t really discussed the Best Actress race in a while. I think last time I wrote something about it, Danielle Deadwyler was Cate Blanchett’s biggest competition. That feels like eons go. Things have clearly changed.

And drags and drags and drags. I know there are some here who abide by the church of Scott Cooper, but, as far as I’m concerned, he’s had a wonky track record as a director.
