The only reason why I’m positing about the “Peter Pan & Wendy” trailer is because it was directed by David Lowery. There is no other reason to pay attention to this one.
In fact, “Peter Pan & Wendy” is actually skipping theaters and heading straight to Disney+ on April 28th. So Disney likely doesn’t have such high confidence in this one. Do you blame them? Have you seen the trailer? The CGI looks atrocious.
It seems like Lowery is very savvy at juggling his arthouse passion projects (“A Ghost Story” “The Green Knight”) with high-priced Disney movies (“Pete’s Dragon,” “Pan and Wendy”), probably the latter to bankroll his next indie movie.
Hey, he’s got to make a living somehow. If this allows Lowery to keep working and making movies like “A Ghost Story”, then I'm all for it.
Lowery is the filmmaker behind the well-reviewed “A Ghost Story,” “Ain’t Them Bodies A Saint,” “The Old Man and The Gun,” and “The Green Knight.”
The fact that one of the first lines Disney decided to use in the trailer is "but you're not all boys" tells me all I need to know about this movie. Yes, the Lost Boys aren’t all boys in Lowery’s movie. Not a complaint, just an observation.
If I remember correctly, in the original Peter Pan story, the Lost Boys are boys who fell out of their prams and that the reason there are no females in the group is that girls are — according to Peter — too clever to fall out of their prams. So, are the girls in Lowery’s film not that clever?
While James L. Brooks teased last year that "we'll soon be seeing" Jack Nicholson, 89, act again, and that he was "reading scripts," that idea has now been shut down by his close friend Michael Douglas, 82.
