We’re inching closer to the fall movie season, and among the most anticipated films—at least in these neck of the woods—are Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s “Digger,” David Fincher’s “Cliff Booth,” Joel Coen’s “Jack of Spades,” and this one...
Here’s a brand-new and lengthier trailer for Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune: Part Three,” which is being described as the “epic conclusion of the trilogy.” The first two installments were both nominated for Best Picture. Threepeat? The visual aesthetic in this third chapter also seems noticeably darker.
It’s quite interesting that Chani doesn’t appear much in the book “Dune: Messiah,” yet she seems to play a key role in the story here. Robert Pattinson looks delightfully deranged as Scytale. The battle scenes look epic, Hans Zimmer’s score is atmospheric, and Anya Taylor-Joy is finally in the mix, soaked in blood. Some of the footage even seems to have been shot on 16mm.
Per Variety, Villeneuve reveals that this third chapter takes place 17 years after the events of “Dune: Part Two.” That’s a noticeable change from the novels, as “Dune Messiah” is set 12 years later.
Though early reports had referred to the project as “Dune: Messiah”—a direct reference to Frank Herbert’s 1969 novel on which the film is based—Warner Bros. recently confirmed that the film’s title would follow a more straightforward numerical approach. That further hints that Villeneuve could be adapting not just “Dune Messiah,” but also portions of the third book, “Children of Dune.”
Greig Fraser, who served as cinematographer on Villeneuve’s first two “Dune” films, is not returning for the third installment. Replacing him is Oscar winner Linus Sandgren, whose most notable work includes “La La Land.”
“Dune: Part Three” stars Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Florence Pugh, Anya Taylor-Joy, Jason Momoa, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Robert Pattinson, Isaach de Bankolé, and Nakoa-Wolf Momoa, among others in key roles.
“Dune: Part Three” is scheduled to open in theaters on December 18, 2026, via Warner Bros. and Legendary.
