We might have more casting news incoming about Daniel Scheinert and Daniel Kwan’s next film, still untitled and already set to star Matt Damon.
Let’s call this one a rumor since it comes from DanielRPK, who has a 50/50 track record. He claims that Emma Stone is in talks to star in The Daniels’ latest extravaganza, which is reportedly set to begin production in August.
Last I heard, Stone was supposed to start production this month — possibly even this week — on her husband Dave McCary’s sophomore effort, “The Catch,” a baseball rom-com co-starring Chris Pine. If Stone takes on The Daniels’ project, she’ll have a very busy, non-Lanthimos summer ahead of her.
Furthermore, despite there being no official plot details so far, we now have additional information about what The Daniels’ film might be tackling. It’s being described as a “superhero tentpole with global warming as the villain.” It had previously been reported by THR that global warming would be central to the story, along with time travel.
The story reportedly jumps between two timelines — one set in the 1980s and the other in the present day — with the ’80s storyline centered on a group of teenagers. Damon would play the father of one of the teens.
The project is a major swing for Universal Pictures, carrying a budget reportedly in the $150 million range. Most of the cast is expected to be teenagers, along with their parents (Stone and Damon?), which helps explain why the studio was seeking actors with movie-star appeal who could still fit The Daniels’ offbeat sensibilities.
Kwan recently confirmed that the film is a “fun sci-fi action comedy” with “a big heart,” which is essentially how EEAAO was described. The same could not be said of their first feature, “Swiss Army Man,” which was famously dubbed the “farting corpse movie” when it premiered at Sundance in 2016.
The Daniels have been developing the film for years following the success of “Everything Everywhere All at Once.” Originally slated for release on June 12, 2026, the project quietly disappeared from Universal’s schedule last year, fueling rumors of creative overhauls. Kwan has since confirmed that the script has been reworked to adapt to constant changes in the world. The film is now scheduled to open on November 19, 2027.
