George Lucas, the creator of Star Wars, who has been retired from filmmaking for over 20 years, is set to make a voice cameo in Illumination’s upcoming “Minions & Monsters.” Random, I know, but there’s a very good reason for that.
Lucas has revealed himself to be a major “Despicable Me” and “Minions” fan. In an interview with Collider, Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri explains that he first met Lucas about two years ago, and Lucas requested the meetup because of his fandom, more specifically, for the Minions.
According to Meledandri, the idea arose to create a character that Lucas could voice, and he pitched the possibility to director Pierre Coffin, co-writer Brian Lynch, and producer Bill Ryan. To their surprise, Lucas quickly agreed. The experience was so “incredible” for Lucas that he is already talking about wanting another role in a future Minions movie.
