Paramount has set a January 14, 2028 release date for Nicolas Cage–starring “Longlegs” sequel, to be directed, yet again by Osgood Perkins.
Last month, Paramount became the project’s new home after Neon stepped aside when they found out about the “scope and budget,” which was outside the indie studio’s normal range. I’m hearing the budget for this one is in the $40-50M range.
Sources are also saying that this is not necessarily a sequel but something “set in the Longlegs universe,” with clear connections to the original. Okay, so is it a prequel? Is Cage playing the same villainous role he had in the original? Nobody knows.
“Longlegs” was a well-reviewed surprise hit in summer 2024, bolstered by an immensely successful marketing campaign that released new clues online each week. The result was a $127M global haul against a $10M budget. Perkins went on to direct “The Monkey” and “Keeper,” and recently wrapped production on “The Young People,” set for release later this year.
