Here’s an interesting weekend scoop, courtesy of Deadline. Ralph Fiennes, Colin Farrell, and Wagner Moura are set to star in “Art.” That’s quite the cast—all Oscar nominees.
To add more spice to the package, Fernando Meirelles (“City of God”) is set to direct, with multiple Oscar winner Christopher Hampton (“The Father”) writing the screenplay. All signs are pointing toward a rewarding endeavor.
This is an English-language adaptation of Yasmina Reza’s acclaimed play. It centers on three longtime friends—Serge, Marc, and Yvan. When Serge buys an expensive, nearly all-white painting, Marc is appalled, straining their friendship over clashing views on what counts as “art.” Meanwhile, their anxious friend Yvan gets caught in the middle, trying to appease both sides—only to make matters worse.
Meirelles also has “Here Comes the Flood,” starring Robert Pattinson and Denzel Washington, coming out this fall—the film is a Netflix production. The Brazilian filmmaker is best known for his acclaimed work on “City of God,” as well as films like “The Constant Gardener” and “The Two Popes.”
