The Official Selection for the 79th edition of the Cannes Film Festival, scheduled from May 12 to May 23, will be revealed on April 9 in Paris.
This announcement comes shortly after it was confirmed that South Korean director Park Chan-wook, known for “Old Boy” and “The Handmaiden,” will head the festival’s jury. Hopefully, we’ll get the opening night film announced soon.
Stay tuned for more Cannes rumors in the coming few days. In the meantime, here’s the latest spitball I published, plus an additional writeup with more intel. This year’s edition looks to be less heavy on American titles, but there will also be no shortage of A-list international filmmakers.
Highly rumored for competition are Almodóvar, Gray, Östlund, Coen, Zvyagintsev, Refn, Dhont, Kore-eda, Farhadi, Mungiu, Hamaguchi, Harari, and maybe, Malick. Spielberg’s “Disclosure Day” might also screen out of competition— Iñárritu’s “Digger” is a 50/50 possibility.
