Paul Greengrass to Direct ‘Test Drive’ for 20th Century, Late 2026 Filming

March 20, 2026 Jordan Ruimy

Paul Greengrass has been very busy of late. Last year, he released “The Lost Bus” for Apple, his first film since 2020, which earned positive reviews, but no Oscar buzz. He’s also shot a 14th century epic, “The Uprising,” starring Andrew Garfield, set for the upcoming fall fests.

Now, here’s another project (via Deadline), set to shoot during Q4 2026, titled “Test Drive,” and which has been set up via 20th Century. The studio actually bought the script in fall 2024 from writer Matt Venne.

Plot details remain under wraps, but there’s a 2024 Black List script with the same title, and it’s probably this project (hat tip: JB Bachman)

A down-on-his-luck car salesman takes a mysterious stranger on a test drive–which turns into a dangerous and unsettling crime spree across the rain-soaked streets of Los Angeles.

Greengrass reinvigorated modern action cinema through the Bourne series (‘Supremacy,’ ‘Ultimatum’), pioneering a jittery, handheld style that reshaped Hollywood. He’s also had a few misfires (“Green Zone”), but his strongest films—“United 93,” “Bloody Sunday,” “Captain Phillips”—are gripping, real-life dramas. Here’s hoping his next few belong with the latter.
