FIRST LOOK: Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence in Martin Scorsese’s ‘What Happens At Night’

March 19, 2026 Jordan Ruimy

We have our first official look at Martin Scorsese’s “What Happens at Night,” starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence. A very snowy image.

The two Oscar-winning actors play a married American couple who travel to a remote European town in hopes of adopting a child. However, the experience quickly becomes unsettling. In a bleak and disorienting setting where reality feels unreliable, their efforts to bring the baby home grow increasingly complicated. As events spiral, they begin to lose their sense of certainty—not just about their surroundings, but about their relationship, their identities, and even the nature of life itself.

The film’s supporting cast includes Mads Mikkelsen, Patricia Clarkson, and Jared Harris. Production is still ongoing in Prague, and will likely continue until, at least, April before wrapping up in New York City.

This is set to be DiCaprio’s seventh film with Scorsese, after “Gangs of New York,” “The Aviator,” “The Departed,” “Shutter Island,” “The Wolf of Wall Street,” and “Killers of the Flower Moon.” He’s still three films away from tying the legendary Scorsese/De Niro partnership, which has resulted in ten films.

This is Lawrence’s first film with Scorsese.

No release date just yet for “What Happens at Night,” which is being produced by Apple, but I’m thinking a big splashy premiere at next year’s Cannes Film Festival would make the most sense for this one.
