No offense to ‘Across the Spider-Verse,’ which I liked very much, but Sam Raimi’s “Spider-Man 2” is the best Spidey movie ever made, — hell, it’s probably one of the best comic book movies ever made.
Honestly, I would be way more excited about a Raimi/Spider-Man movie, even with a 50-year-old Tobey Maguire, than any of the Tom Holland ones. At least Raimi nailed the second one. I find the Holland Spideys — ‘Homecoming,’ ‘Far From Home,’ and ‘No Way Home’ — barely memorable.
That said, Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios have kept the fanbase on the edge of their seats, waiting for the first official trailer of “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” to show up. It’s finally here.
Is that Keith David doing the narration? Also, does Tom Holland even age? It’s been five years since he shot ‘Brand New Day’ and he looks the exact same. The overall tone of this latest Spidey certainly looks darker, which is somewhat promising.
Returning to the role, Holland once again suits up as Peter Parker/Spider-Man. Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk is in there somewhere as well. The film marks the first ‘Spider-Man’ outing directed by ‘Shang-Chi’ helmer Destin Daniel Cretton. Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Michael Mando, and J.K. Simmons are set to reprise their roles, while Jon Bernthal as The Punisher, Sadie Sink (rumored to play Jean Grey) and Tramell Tillman (“Severance”) are the new additions.
‘Brand New Day’ follows on the massive success of ‘No Way Home,’ which raked in over $1.9 billion at the global box office in 2021. I’d be shocked if this latest Spidey doesn’t crack the billion dollar mark as well. That last instalment ended with the world forgetting that Peter Parker was Spidey. That memory wipe included MJ who no longer knows who Peter is.
Sony has set up a July 31, 2026 release date for ‘Brand New Day.’ Holland has another movie opening two weeks earlier, and it’s not just any movie, it’s Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey,”
