Nuri Bilge Ceylan, the world-renowned Turkish director, is currently in prep mode for his next film. Pınar Deniz will take the lead role in the project that Ceylan plans to shoot this summer.
Ceylan will film “Pale Sun” in different parts of Istanbul and along the Aegean coast. No word yet on plot details or the remainder of the cast, but he’s a filmmaker who almost always secures a spot in the Cannes competition, so mark this one for 2027.
Here’s the synopsis: “Sabri lives alone in the suburbs of Ankara. His daughter, who lives in Istanbul, invites him to spend a few days with her and her young son at her seaside vacation home. After the initial joy of their reunion, tensions arise between them, bringing long-buried resentments to the surface.”
Ceylan has become a staple of the festival with his 2014 Palme d’Or winner “Winter Sleep,” as well as other prize winners such as the masterful “Once Upon a Time in Anatolia,” “Three Monkeys,” and “Distant.” He was last at the festival in 2023 with “About Dry Grasses.”
