Matt Reeves’ “The Batman: Part II” is expected to start production on May 29 in London. Nearly all of the major roles have been cast, with one exception: Christopher Dent, the father of Harvey Dent.
It has been quite the drama trying to cast this role. Brad Pitt was initially interested but ultimately passed. Oscar nominee Stellan Skarsgård also declined the part. As a result, the search to cast Christopher Dent has continued over the last few weeks.
Another actor I’m told who has most recently passed on the role is Daniel Craig, who is currently in prep mode for his upcoming Damien Chazelle prison-set movie, which will see him starring opposite Cillian Murphy and Michelle Williams. That film is set to shoot next month and is still untitled—in fact, the script, which I’ve read and is a real doozy, does not have a title either. It quite literally has “Untitled Damien Chazelle/Prison Movie” on its front page.
Regardless, given the starry actors who have been offered the role of Christopher Dent, I gather it will be a substantial role in “The Batman: Part II.” And so will Scarlett Johansson’s casting as Gilda Dent, and Sebastian Stan as her husband, Harvey.
One persistent rumor I’ve been hearing about the film, which has kept its plot ultra-secret, is that it involves District Attorney Harvey Dent, Commissioner James Gordon (Jeffrey Wright), and Batman forming an uneasy alliance to bring down a serial killer and the city’s entrenched mafia power.
Regardless, the ensemble for this sequel is shaping up quite nicely, loaded with talent and featuring Johansson, Stan, Wright, Colin Farrell, Barry Keoghan, Paul Dano, and, of course, Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader. The only actor missing is the person who will play Christopher Dent—the search continues.
