Lily Collins (“Emily in Paris”) has been cast as Audrey Hepburn in a film about the making of the 1961 classic “Breakfast at Tiffany’s.” Yeah, this is good casting — to play Hepburn, I’d either have cast Collins or Rooney Mara.
The film is based on Sam Wasson’s bestselling book “Fifth Avenue, 5 A.M.: Audrey Hepburn, Breakfast at Tiffany’s and the Dawn of the Modern Woman.” The book features a colorful cast of characters, including Hepburn, Truman Capote, Mickey Rooney, and director Blake Edwards.
The rom-com, directed by Edwards for Paramount and adapted from Capote’s novella, cemented Hepburn as a global fashion and cultural icon. The story follows a spirited socialite living in a New York City apartment who becomes entangled with a charming newspaper reporter.
All I want to know is who will portray Mickey Rooney/Mr. Yunioshi? That’s the most important casting of this entire project.
No director is attached just yet. Alena Smith will write the script — she is best known as the writer, director, and showrunner of the Peabody Award-winning series “Dickinson” on Apple TV+, starring Hailee Steinfeld as Emily Dickinson. She is also executive producing FX’s upcoming limited series “Cry Wolf.”
Now, let’s circle back to 2022, when Rooney Mara had been cast as Hepburn in Luca Guadagnino’s biopic, which has since been shelved — Collins’ fans were furious that she didn’t get the role. Now, it has all come full circle, and it’s her turn to take a crack at playing Hepburn.
Of course, now Ariana Grande fans are going after Collins. They wanted their girl to get this role. You can’t make this stuff up.
Born in Belgium in 1929, Hepburn became a film icon of the 1950s and ’60s, starring in hits such as “Sabrina,” “Breakfast at Tiffany’s,” “My Fair Lady,” and “Wait Until Dark.” She earned five Oscar nominations for Best Actress, winning in 1953 for her performance in “Roman Holiday.”
