First Look: Colin Firth in Steven Spielberg’s ‘Disclosure Day’

January 7, 2026 Jordan Ruimy

Things just got more confusing in this first look at Colin Firth in Steven Spielberg’s “Disclosure Day” (via USA Today). What’s attached to his head? Electrodes?

The trailer was released last month, which left us with more questions than answers. Emily Blunt delivers a weather forecast and suddenly begins speaking in strange clicking or groaning voices during a live broadcast — a moment many online interpreted as non-human communication or possession.

We also see various animals: deer, cardinals, goats, raccoons, and others appear repeatedly and act unnaturally, often staring directly at humans on screen.

There are also scenes showing rows of screens and people in black suits — imagery widely interpreted as surveillance or secret-agency symbolism, or a callback to UFO conspiracy tropes (like “Men in Black”).

Here’s Universal’s tease so far: “If you found out we weren’t alone, if someone showed you, proved it to you, would that frighten you? This summer, the truth belongs to seven billion people. We are coming close to … Disclosure Day.”

“People have a right to know the truth—it belongs to seven billion people,” Josh O’Connor’s character declares in the teaser, which, fair warning, offers no actual glimpses of aliens or UFOs, though it hints at them in numerous ways. Another character adds, “Why would [God] create such a vast universe, only to save it for us?”

The ensemble cast includes Emily Blunt, Josh O’Connor, Colin Firth, Eve Hewson, Colman Domingo, Wyatt Russell, and Henry Lloyd-Hughes, with Steven Spielberg crafting the film’s original sci-fi concept alongside longtime collaborator and screenwriter David Koepp.

“Disclosure Day” hits theaters on June 12.
