Things aren’t going well over at Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions. Their latest release, “HIM,” is underperforming at the box office ($12M), and reviews have been atrocious. No wonder layoffs happened at Peele’s company.
It’s not just critics—audiences have revolted against “HIM,” giving it a C- CinemaScore grade. On Rotten Tomatoes, its user rating is 58%, which aligns with the 5.5/10 IMDb score. Audiences tend to be more generous than critics, but when it comes to this film, they’re equally negative.
Peele needs to save his company by actually directing a film, which doesn’t seem to be happening anytime soon. His next film, his fourth directorial effort, was recently pulled from Universal’s 2026 slate—and he still hasn’t written the script.
