I may be in the minority here, but I wasn’t really a fan of Matt Reeves’ “The Batman.” Don’t get me wrong, impeccably shot by Greig Fraser, ambitiously told , but too sleek, too convoluted and derivative, recycling ideas from past Batman films. It was more a glossy comic-book spectacle than a bold reinvention.
With that said, I still have hopes for “The Batman Part II,” which is set to begin production in April 2026. Reeves — a talented filmmaker — has already shed some light on what fans can expect from Robert Pattinson’s next outing as the Caped Crusader.
Speaking over the weekend, the filmmaker revealed that the sequel will lean heavily into Bruce Wayne’s personal journey. While the first instalment centered largely on Batman as a symbol, Reeves now wants to push further into the psychology.
That direction will also inform the villain choice. Reeves hinted to Happy Sad Confused that the antagonist will have deep personal ties to Bruce’s past—and intriguingly claimed it’s a character that has “never really been done in a movie before.”
Naturally, that tease has fueled speculation that Hush could be the big bad this time around, though The Court of Owls remains another strong possibility.
With Easter eggs in “The Batman” having already teasing Hush and hints scattered throughout Max’s upcoming ‘Penguin’ series, it seems the foundation is being laid out. After decades of Joker, Two-Face, Penguin and Riddler rinse and repeats, Reeves appears determined to shake things up.
As mentioned, production on “The Batman Part II” begins next spring, and while casting announcements could arrive in the coming months, Warner Bros. is keeping everything tightly under wraps for now.
“The Batman Part II” is scheduled to hit theaters on October 1, 2027.
