Another Trailer! Bradley Cooper’s ‘Is This Thing On?’

August 26, 2025 Jordan Ruimy

This seems to be the day of the trailer. Here’s another one that’s premiering at the fall fests.

A trailer for Bradley Cooper’s latest directorial effort, the dramedy “Is This Thing On,” which boasts an ensemble cast including Will Arnett, Laura Dern, Andra Day, Cooper himself, Amy Sedaris, Sean Hayes, Christine Ebersole, Ciarán Hinds, and Scott Icenogle.

The film is still being shaped in the editing room as we speak. Cooper is actively fine-tuning the cut, with much of the scoring, sound design, and color correction yet to be finalized. The version shown to audiences during recent test screenings was described as a “work in progress.”

Inspired by the life of British comedian John Bishop, “Is This Thing On?” stars Will Arnett and Laura Dern as a married couple on the brink of separation while raising two children. Arnett’s character, Alex, makes a late-in-life pivot into stand-up comedy in New York City’s West Village.

The film follows Bradley Cooper’s previous directorial outings, “A Star Is Born” and “Maestro,” both of which premiered on the fall festival circuit. Compared to those, this one leans lighter—dabbling in drama but with a noticeably more playful tone.

It should be noted that Matthew Libatique is the cinematographer on this one, which means, at the very least, it’ll be well photographed. Some of Libatique’s most notable works includes “Requiem For A Dream,” “Black Swan,” “Inside Man,” and “A Star is Born.”

“Is This Thing On?” will premiere at the New York Film Festival in October before hitting theaters on December 19.
