Joseph Kosinski’s “F1,” starring Brad Pitt, has got to be one of the most pleasant surprises of the year. The film, which is still raking in the dough globally, might very well hit the $600M worldwide mark and even surpass “Superman” by the end of the month.
“F1” is now dated for VOD on August 22—that’s almost exactly two months since its initial release in late June. Congrats to Warner Bros. and Apple for holding it out for this long. “F1” is a film that demands to be seen on the big screen. The race sequences are thrilling.
It’s also now the highest grossing title of Pitt’s career. The man is 62, and just starred in the biggest film of his life, surpassing “World War Z” ($536M). These last six years, Pitt has had two other hits (“Once Upon A Time in Hollywood” and “Bullet Train”). Who said he wasn’t a big draw?
Notice, the titles mentioned are non-IP, and “F1” is also now the highest grossing original film of the decade, unless you count Nolan’s “Oppenheimer,” which is based on Kai Bird’s “American Prometheus.” Pitt rarely, if ever, makes sequels — the only ones in his filmography are Soderbergh’s ‘Oceans’ movies.
