Universal has made a habit of rushing their hits to VOD, even while they’re still pulling in strong box office numbers. They waited just 30 days for “Wicked” and “Twisters” — and now they’re doing it again.
“Jurassic World Rebirth,” now dominating the box office, will hit digital platforms in under three weeks — landing August 5. The film has already broken even for Universal, so everything from here is profit. At this point, they couldn’t care less.
This follows Universal’s standard post-COVID strategy: underperformers hit digital in 16 days, box office successes get a 31-day window. They’re not likely to change course unless real pressure forces their hand.
