Bryan Fuller's ‘Dust Bunny' Eyeing TIFF Midnight Madness Premiere

Bryan Fuller has decided to make movies, and the result looks as deranged as you’d expect. I’m hearing a rumor that a TIFF Midnight Madness slot is reserved for this one.

Collider has a first look at “Dust Bunny,” a twisted fairytale from the “Hannibal” and “Pushing Daisies” creator that reunites him with longtime collaborator Mads Mikkelsen and assembles an ensemble that includes Sigourney Weaver, David Dastmalchian, and breakout star Sophie Sloan.

A project that’s quietly been in the works for three years, “Dust Bunny” is set to hit theaters on December 12. Described as “wicked fairy tale/horror” hybrid, the film was shot in June 2023, soon after, Roadside Attractions boarded the film.

The exclusive first image offers a vivid glimpse into Fuller’s new world: pastel-saturated and otherworldly, it evokes “Alice in Wonderland.” In the shot, Mikkelsen, Weaver, and Sloan sit around a tea table on a deep green velvet couch, surrounded by teapots, finger sandwiches, and lush, dreamlike production design.

The story centers on Aurora (Sloan), a young girl convinced a monster under her bed devoured her family. Seeking help, she turns to her neighbor — a stoic, enigmatic man played by Mikkelsen — who happens to be a professional hitman. He suspects Aurora’s family were not monster prey but rather collateral damage in an attempted hit on his own life.

This marks Fuller’s feature directorial debut, though he’s far from new to genre storytelling. Best known for redefining network horror. “Dust Bunny” represents not just a return to directing but a reunion with “Hannibal” star Mikkelsen, who played the iconic Dr. Hannibal Lecter under Fuller’s vision.
