Pixar has released a trailer for their next original film titled “Hoppers.” A rough cut of the film was recently screened for Pixar brass in California.
“Hoppers” stars Jon Hamm, Bobby Moynihan, and Piper Curda, and centers on Mabel, an animal loving girl who transfers her mind into a robot beaver to infiltrate their animal kingdom. It’s a “body swap” comedy.
“Hoppers” joins other upcoming Pixar films, including “Toy Story 5,” “The Incredibles 3,” “Coco 2,” and “Gatto.” No confirmation yet on rumored projects such as “Finding Nemo 3” “Ratatouille 2,” and “Monsters Inc. 2.” As you can see, plenty of sequels.
Pixar is coming off the immense success of “Inside Out 2” and total debacle of this summer’s “Elio.” Five years ago, Pixar CEO Pete Docter was implying that they would no longer be concentrating on sequels, but that clearly hasn’t happened.
If anything, their last few original efforts (“Onward,” “Soul,” “Luca,” “Turning Red”) were either pandemic casualties or Disney+ dumps, while “Elemental” only found success after a slow start, and “Elio,” well, it’s destined to become the lowest grossing film in Pixar history.
As their originals continue to falter, sequels are almost all that Pixar cares about these days, which is why “Hoppers,” directed by Daniel Chong, should be on our radar, and that trailer was a fun watch. Chong is best known for creating Cartoon Network’s beloved series “We Bare Bears” and directing its feature‑length adaptation in 2020.
“Hoppers” has been dated for March 6, 2026 release via Disney.
