Teaser For Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’ Leaks Online!

July 1, 2025 Jordan Ruimy

UPDATE: The teaser has seen numerous leaks online, and Universal’s done a good job taking them down, but not all. Here’s a detailed description of the footage:

The teaser opens with a shot of the sea and voiceover from Matt Damon. Zeus is mentioned. We see beach close-ups before men on horseback charge toward a large, broken black trojan horse on the shore.

The scene shifts to Tom (Telemachus) speaking with Jon Bernthal, asking about his father, Odysseus. Bernthal’s character begins questioning those around him: “Who has a story of Odysseus? Is it you? Some say he’s rich, some say he’s poor.”

We glimpse men entering a foreboding cave as the narration continues: “Some say he perished, some say he’s imprisoned.” Telemachus, emotional and searching, presses for answers, but Bernthal isn’t interested in speculation.

The teaser ends with a haunting wide shot of Matt Damon, alone, drifting on the wreckage of a ship in a cold, dark sea.

Earlier: Christopher Nolan fans, get ready.

Starting tomorrow, Universal will begin attaching the first teaser for Nolan’s “The Odyssey” to prints of “Jurassic World: Rebirth.” Clocking in at 1 minute and 10 seconds, the teaser will offer more actual footage than Nolan’s usual cryptic reveals — a tradition that began back with “The Dark Knight” and carried through “Inception,” “Interstellar,” and more recently “Oppenheimer.”

There will be two versions of the teaser circulating in non-IMAX theaters: one presented in a 2.39:1 aspect ratio and the other in 1.85:1 — both giving different glimpses of Hoyte van Hoytema’s visuals, depending on the projection. It’s all part of the usual Nolan rollout: elusive, elegant, and built to drive cinephiles crazy.

Don’t expect much else; Nolan’s tight-lipped approach to marketing isn’t going anywhere, but the teaser should be enough to whet the appetite as we inch closer to the film’s scheduled release on July 17, 2026. The full trailer isn’t coming until at least December.

What’s especially intriguing is that the teaser is arriving while “The Odyssey,” which began shooting in February, is still in production. Nolan is currently deep into filming, with shoots reportedly taking place across multiple international locations. In fact, they’re shooting for most of July, and there are locations rented out for early August as well.

While the film centers on Matt Damon’s portrayal of Odysseus, and his arduous journey home following the Trojan War, it’s also assembled one of the most impressive casts in recent memory, including the likes of Tom Holland, Charlize Theron, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Jon Bernthal, Benny Safdie and Mia Goth.

The film reportedly has a budget of around $250M and will utilize brand-new, state-of-the-art IMAX cameras, with cinematography by Nolan’s go-to DP, Hoyte Van Hoytema. Ludwig Göransson will most likely be composing the score.
