Ridley Scott Says He’s Shooting His Bee Gees Biopic in November

June 4, 2025 Jordan Ruimy

In an interview with Collider, Ridley Scott, who will soon wrap up his sci-fi film “The Dog Stars,” basically implies that rest is for the weak, and he’ll be prepping to go into production on yet another film in the fall.

When asked if he was shooting anything after “The Dog Stars,” he confirms that the Bee Gees biopic is next on his list. “I am [shooting something else] the Bee Gees in November,” he said. Regarding whether Paramount would be backing it, the director continued, “I think so. That’s what I dare say.”

If you remember, this one got delayed last year because Scott demanded Paramount pay him more money (“I’m expensive, but I’m f*cking good”). He seems cryptic as to whether he’s reached a deal with them to direct, but is inclined to mention plans to shoot the film five months from now.

A cast has yet to be set in stone. That’s not for a lack of consideration, though, as Scott confirmed that he has a few names in mind to play the three brothers. “I’ve already got my footprints and handprints, or requests is a better way of putting it, on those names,” he teased. “And no, I can’t say who they are.”

This Bee Gees biopic is actually titled “You Should Be Dancing,” and was originally supposed to be directed by Kenneth Branagh, but Scott took over the reins in late 2023. Scott is now the fourth director to be attached to this project after Branagh, John Carney and Lorene Scafaria. John Logan has written the screenplay.

The Bee Gees were a highly successful musical group who produced hit after hit during the ‘70s disco era — those songs included the likes of “Staying Alive” and “How Deep is Your Love.” They also revolutionized movie music with their exemplary work on the “Saturday Night Fever” soundtrack.

As for Scott, he has no shortage of projects in development, having attached himself to seven other projects, including “Gladiator III,” “Freewalkers,” “Bomb,” and “Battle of Britain.” He turns 88 in November.
