The Philippous Met Marvel To Direct Mystery Project

May 28, 2025 Jordan Ruimy

After capturing Joe and Anthony Russo, Marvel may be eyeing its next directing duo in rising horror filmmakers Danny and Michael Philippou.

The Australian brothers, known for “Talk to Me” and the upcoming “Bring Her Back,” recently revealed to The Project that they’ve had talks with Marvel about potentially directing a film. The film in question remains a mystery—it could be “Blade” or “Ghost Rider,” both of which are still in need of directors.

Whether the Philippous will ultimately sign on is still unclear. While the opportunity—and paycheck—of directing an MCU film is tempting, it might not be the best move for them creatively. With their unique voice and clear vision, they have a promising future ahead, and joining Marvel at this turbulent stage could derail that momentum.

It’s worth noting that just last year, they turned down an offer from James Gunn to direct a project in the DCU, choosing instead to focus, as they put it, on “original stories.” That decision reflects a commitment to carving out their own path—something that might be harder to do within the confines of a struggling cinematic universe.
