At this point, there have been so many Star Wars projects in development over at Kathy Kennedy’s Lucasfilm that it’s becoming increasingly difficult to keep track of them all.
Ryan Reynolds has added another potential movie. He’s telling The Box Office Podcast that he recently pitched an R-rated ‘Star Wars’ project.
It doesn't have to be overt, A+ characters, there's a wide range of characters you could use. And I don't mean R-rated to be vulgar, R-rated as a Trojan Horse for emotion
Reynolds hinted that he wrote this movie. In case you’re unaware, he’s now a screenwriter, having ghostwritten lines for his wife Blake Lively on “It Ends With Us,” wrote a “Deadpool & X-Men” movie for Marvel, and currently in the middle of penning a Boy Band movie for his “Deadpool & Wolverine” director, Shawn Levy, and co-star, Hugh Jackman.
It should be noted that in its near fifty year existence, the Star Wars franchise has yet to release an R-rated movie. More recently, Osgood Perkins (”Longlegs”) had hinted that he wanted to pitch his own R-rated Star Wars, this one tackling Darth Vader.
Lucasfilm hasn’t released a Star Wars movie since 2019’s “The Rise of Skywalker.” With Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s planned Rey movie recently put “on hold,” Disney has been betting all of its chips on streaming’s ‘Andor’ and ‘The Mandalorian.’
With the exception of Reynold’s potential script, there are at least five other ‘Star Wars’ projects currently in development, from directors James Mangold, Obaid-Chimoy, Dave Filoni, Donald Glover, Taika Waititi and Patty Jenkins.
