Jurassic World Rebirth: New Trailer is an Improvement — Is That Enough?

May 20, 2025 Jordan Ruimy

A new trailer for Gareth Edwards’ “Jurassic World: Rebirth” has arrived. The trailer is an improvement over the last one, which felt underwhelming. With Edwards directing, it’s hard to imagine it being worse than ‘Fallen Kingdom’ or ‘Dominion.’ At the very least, some of the visuals hint at a more inspired approach.

The trailer wants us to believe that Edwards will be going back to the roots of Spielberg’s 1993 original, a quality and purpose that hasn’t been achieved again with the six ensuing sequels.

This new installment is being positioned as a “fresh take” on the franchise. Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard are not expected to reprise their roles, nor are original trilogy stars Jeff Goldblum, Laura Dern, or Sam Neill.

Instead, ‘Rebirth’ introduces a new cast, led by Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, and Jonathan Bailey. The film is described as a “semi-reboot,” set five years after the events of “Jurassic World: Dominion,” with a new set of characters, settings, and prehistoric creatures.

Edwards, known for ‘Rogue One’ and “The Creator,” stepped in as director after David Leitch exited the project last year due to creative differences. Given Edwards’ background in sci-fi and monster cinema, he seems like a better fit for the franchise than his predecessor.

The screenplay comes from David Koepp, who penned the original Jurassic Park, with longtime producers Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley returning. Universal is set to release “Jurassic World: Rebirth” on July 2, 2025.
