‘Mission: Impossible—The Final Reckoning’ Earns Mixed Reactions

May 13, 2025 Jordan Ruimy

Looks like Christopher McQuarrie and Tom Cruise got a little too high off their own supply when it comes to the latest instalment of the ‘Mission: Impossible’ franchise.

Ahead of its Cannes premiere, “Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning” has screened for press and the reactions are decidedly mixed, with many viewers pointing to its excessive length as a major drawback.

While some praise the film’s high-stakes action sequences and Tom Cruise’s continued commitment to doing his own stunts, others feel the movie drags in places, struggling to maintain momentum over its extended 170 minute runtime.

Viewers note that the ambitious scope sometimes comes at the expense of pacing and character development, leaving audiences divided on whether the final instalment delivers a satisfying conclusion to the long-running franchise.

The actual embargo breaks tomorrow, and if reviews match these early reactions, which seems like it might be the case, then that could very well shave off some millions from the film’s current opening weekend tracking, which stands at around $80M.

I don’t even need to remind you that ‘Final Reckoning’ cost $400M to produce, some are saying that it was more than that, and to recoup all of that money it would probably need to gross $1 billion at the box office.
