AMC to Slash Movie Ticket Prices by 50% on Wednesdays

May 12, 2025 Jordan Ruimy

AMC Theatres, the biggest cinema chain in the world, is pulling another move to get more butts in seats—this time by cutting ticket prices in half on Wednesdays. Yes, 50% off.

The mid-week promo, quietly dubbed internally as a way to fight the mid-week movie blues, is expected to launch nationwide on July 9. Bloomberg‘s sources say AMC has already looped in the major studios, likely hoping the offer boosts attendance outside the usual Friday-Sunday window.

This isn’t AMC’s first attempt at discounted days—Tuesdays already offer deals for loyalty program members. But Wednesday’s plan? That’s open warfare against the growing trend of staying home. AMC clearly wants to remind audiences: the big screen experience still matters, even on a Wednesday.

With ticket prices soaring above $20 in major markets like New York and Los Angeles, a 50% discount could be hard to resist. In survey after survey, one of the primary reasons cited by audiences who avoid moviegoing is the increase in ticket prices.
