CONFIRMED: Joseph Kosinski Set to Direct ‘Miami Vice’ Reboot

April 28, 2025 Jordan Ruimy

UPDATE: It’s been confirmed by THR. Michael Mann must be ecstatic about this development. The reporting claims that this will be shot by Kosinski right after he wraps production on his UFO whistleblower movie.

EARLIER: Joseph Kosinski is in talks to direct a new “Miami Vice movie for Universal, with Dan Gilroy (”Nightcrawler”) writing the script. This news comes from Daniel Richtman who usually gets his info from production grids.

Michael Mann attempted a cinematic interpretation of “Miami Vice” in 2006, starring Jamie Foxx and Colin Farrell. The film was originally panned by critics, only to be heralded, years later, by a passionate cult following, as a great film.

No word yet on whether this is a reboot, or if Foxx and Farrell would reprise their lead roles as Tubbs and Crockett. I’m not entirely convinced the latter could happen since the film was a commercial disappointment, earning only $66M in the U.S.

Kosinski has “F1,” starring Brad Pitt, coming out in the summer. He also has an untitled whistleblower thriller in the works over at Apple. His most notable credits include “Top Gun: Maverick,”“Oblivion,” “Tron: Legacy” and “Only the Brave.”
