“Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse” was initially supposed to come out this year, but things drastically changed. It now has a new release date, and first look images (which can be viewed below).
Sony announced at CinemaCon that ‘Beyond the Spider-Verse’ is finally going to hit theaters on June 4, 2027. Shameik Moore will return to voice Miles Morales. Hailee Steinfeld will also be returning to voice Gwen Stacy.
‘Beyond the Spider-Verse,’ which starts right where the last film ended, was described on-stage as “bigger and bolder than the last two films,” and a “massive finale” with an entire team working on new animation techniques.
Last September, The InSneider reported that Sony had scrapped most of ‘Beyond the Spider-Verse’ for “creative reasons,” and, given the detailed animation that was required, the movie would not get released for another few years.
A few months later, A report insinuated that Sony had actually demanded for the ENTIRE ‘Beyond’ script to be rewritten. This meant that reels of animated footage had to be thrown out. The studio was also said to be undecided on the film's ending.
The visionary and groundbreaking “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” was a commercial and critical success back in the summer of 2023. The sequel ‘Beyond the Spider-Verse’ initially had a release date of March 2024, but it’s now set to come out three years later than planned.
Back in 2023, Vulture reported on producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s controversial managerial style while overseeing “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.”? Crew members — ranging from artists to production executives who had worked anywhere from five to a dozen years in the animation business — described the process of making the $150M film as “uniquely arduous, involving a relentless kind of revisionism” and “death by a thousand paper cuts.”
The source material, for the uninitiated, is Arrowhead Game Studios' co-op shooter — muscle in power armor defending "Super Earth" from bugs and robots in a war game.
