This morning, Thierry Frémaux confirmed with Radio France that the official selection for the 78th Cannes Film Festival will be announced on April 10. This is much earlier than we’re used to which could also mean he already has a good idea about how his lineup will look like.
I’ll leave some of the recent intel I’ve heard for my next updated predictions, but locks seem to include new films by Wes Anderson, Jim Jarmusch, Richard Linklater, Ari Aster, Julia Ducournau, Joachim Trier, Kleber Mendoca Filho, The Dardennes, Mascha Schilinski and Kirill Serebrennikov.
No word yet on whether Lynne Ramsay, Terrence Malick, Kelly Reichardt, and Luca Guadagnino will be headed to the Croisette — they’re all maybes. The 78th Cannes Film Festival is set to take place from May 13 to 24.
