Uwe Boll Plans to Keep ‘The Dark Knight’ as Title of His Next Film — Warner Bros Warns Him Not to Use It

February 17, 2025 Jordan Ruimy

In case you didn’t hear, and I wouldn’t blame you for being unaware, Uwe Boll just wrapped production on his next film, which is peculiarly titled “The Dark Knight,” and happens to star Armie Hammer.

Boll has been very insistent that the film’s familiar name should not be confused with Christopher Nolan’s similarly titled 2008 film. It’s a totally different beast: “our movie is very different from Chris Nolan’s movie, so there is no danger of confusion,” Boll said in a press release.

Well, Warner Bros is none too happy about this development. In Boll’s podcast, he confirms that Warners has gone as far as to contact the filmmaker to cease and desist his intention to call the film ‘The Dark Knight.’ Boll is refusing to cooperate. The film’s title must stick, he says.

DC and Warner already contacted and said I can’t use the title. I understand that but I told them “Guys, remember “Rampage,” the Rock movie? You used my title. The fact that they did that, and called me for permission, they could show gratefulness and say, listen it’s not a Batman movie and you can use the title.

In case you’re unaware, Boll did in fact direct a 2009 film called “Rampage,” which was also the title of a 2018 Warner-backed Dwayne Johnson action movie.

Speaking of “Rampage,” Boll says “The Dark Knight” goes back to the old days of that film, meaning it’s a “very dark and violent movie” which, in his words, tackles the current “landscape in Europe,” one filled with a dire migrant situation, including “rapes and knife attacks.”

Meanwhile, in that same podcast, Boll amusingly goes on a rant about today’s superhero movies. I highly recommend you listen to the entire episode — which only runs a delightfully unhinged 15 minutes.

Most of the DC and Marvel films suck. They’re too long and with endless CGI, and everything is fake and the stories suck. Especially Batman, how many Batman’s do we want to watch? They suck.

Boll goes on to admit that he recently wrote a letter to DCU head, James Gunn, with an idea for a “very violent and sexual Batman” movie. He’s still awaiting Gunn’s response.
