‘How to Train Your Dragon’ Has Same Script & Shot Selections as Original 2010 Movie

February 12, 2025 Jordan Ruimy

There’s a live-action remake of “How To Train Your Dragon” coming our way. This has the same director of the animated film, Dean DeBlois, and even Gerard Butler reprising his role as Stoick. DreamWorks is thinking big money with this one.

As noticed in the latest trailer, “How to Train Your Dragon” is going to be very similar to the animated film. In fact, it plays like a carbon copy. Some are referring to it as the “copy and paste” version. The dialogue is also word for word the same. It’s a live-action replica.

Deblois has now confirmed our suspicions (via Brandon Davis). It’s the exact same movie. The script has “barely changed,” he says. This is beyond just a remake, its intentions are to be as identical as possible to the 2010 animated original. The shots are also framed in the exact same way.

What’s the point of this doing this? This is creative bankruptcy, and for good reason, DeBlois is now being criticized online for his IP cash grab.

The cast in the “live action” replica includes Mason Thames, Gerard Butler, Nico Parker, Nick Frost, Julian Dennison, Gabriel Howell, Bronwyn James, Harry Trevaldwyn, Ruth Codd, Peter Serafinowicz, and Murray McArthur. The film is again written and directed by ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ franchise helmer DeBlois.

“How to Train Your Dragon” is set to release in theaters on June 13, 2025.
