‘One Battle After Another' Wins National Board of Review, Third Prize This Week — Can Anything Stop This Movie?

December 3, 2025 Jordan Ruimy

More awards announced.

The National Board of Review, a 93-year-old voting body made up of film enthusiasts, industry professionals, academics, and filmmakers, has unveiled its winners.

“One Battle After Another” continued its unstoppable awards momentum as it was named Best Picture by the NBR. Paul Thomas Anderson took home the directing prize. Meanwhile, Leonardo DiCaprio nabbed Best Actor, and Benicio del Toro won Best Supporting Actor.

What more is there to say? PTA’s film won the Gothams, NYFCC, and now NBR in the span of 72 hours. To believe it’s not the frontrunner to win Best Picture at next year’s Oscars is just delusional. Its toughest competitor was “Hamnet,” but that film — which initially earned glowing reviews, mostly from Telluride and TIFF — has been getting more mixed ink in recent weeks. Even its Metascore has gone from 94 to 82.

After winning NYFCC, Rose Byrne continued down her wrecking path — taking home the NBR prize for Best Actress. She deserves every single honor for her mesmerizing performance in “If I Had Legs I’d Kick You.”

The NBR today also announced, per usual, its top 10 films, top five international films, and top five documentaries. Here’s this year’s winners list.
