Here’s the first of four upcoming teasers for “Avengers: Doomsday,” this one confirming that Steve Rogers/Captain America is once again one of the film’s leads. You gotta feel bad for Anthony Mackie.
This morning, the Russo Brothers broke their silence on Chris Evans returning as Rogers in ‘Doomsday’: “The character that changed our lives. The story that brought us all here together. It was always going to come back to this.”
The teaser starts on a calm farm as Steve rides his motorcycle home, with a gentle piano version of the Avengers theme playing. His blue helmet hints at his Captain America suit, which he later looks at fondly. Holding a newborn baby, Steve smiles proudly. The teaser ends by announcing, “Steve Rogers will return in Avengers: Doomsday,” followed by a countdown to the movie’s release.
It could have been made by AI.
In a 2024 Esquire interview. Evans said that he was “happily retired” and denied reports that he would return to Marvel.
“That’s not true,” Evans said about his rumored return at the time, explaining that these reports “happen every couple years” since he bowed out in “Endgame.”
“I’ve just stopped responding to it,” he added. “Yeah, no — happily retired!”
What changed? Desperation on the part of Marvel, who have been struggling this decade, or ever since ‘Endgame’ closed the books on Cap, and of course, Evans is no doubt being paid a handsome fee to return.
There will be three more ‘Doomsday’ teasers rolling out over the next three weeks, featuring Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Doctor Doom (Robert Downey Jr.). The fourth trailer remains a mystery. “Avengers: Doomsday” is set to hit theaters on December 18, 2026.
