First Look at Richard Linklater's ‘Blue Moon'

January 21, 2025 Jordan Ruimy

Richard Linklater’s “Blue Moon” was officially announced this morning to be part of Berlin Film Festival competition. We now have our first look image of the film, featuring Ethan Hawke and Margaret Qualley, below.

Anytime a new Linklater comes out, it’s a cause for celebration. The Texan filmmaker has one of the most impressive filmographies out there: “Dazed and Confused,” “Waking Life,” “Boyhood,” “The School of Rock,” “Everybody Wants Some,” and of course the ‘Before’ trilogy.

“Blue Moon” is still not dated, but I previously reported that a May release was being eyed by Sony Pictures Classics. It might very well depend on the film’s reception at Berlin next month. Linklater’s “Nouvelle Vague” will also likely screen at Cannes in May.
