NYFF Lineup Includes Brady Corbet, Mike Leigh, Pedro Almodovar & Sean Baker

The 2024 New York Film Festival has announced its main slate lineup. As expected, it’s filled with Cannes titles, 13 of them, including Sean Baker’s “Anora” and Mohammad Rasoulof’s “Seed of the Sacred Fig.”

The Venice Film Festival competition titles included in NYFF’s lineup are Brady Corbet’s “The Brutalist,” Pedro Almodovar’s “The Room Next Door,” Dea Kulumbegashvili’s “April,” Athina Rachel Tsangari’s “Harvest,” and Yeo Siew Hua’s “Stranger Eyes.”

Take note, NYFF has decided to continue its auteur-driven curating by including top directors who had their films met with mixed reviews at Cannes, including David Cronenberg’s “The Shrouds,” and Paul Schrader’s “Oh, Canada.” Meanwhile, Mike Leigh’s Cannes and Venice rejected “Hard Truths” will have its U.S. premiere at NYFF.

Now, what’s missing? The most blatant exclusion is Luca Guadagnino’s “Queer” — what’s going on with that one? Other titles curiously not in the NYFF lineup include Pablo Larrain’s “Maria,” Justin Kurzel’s “The Order,” Walter Salles’ “I’m Still Here” and Todd Phillips’ “Joker: Folie a Deux.”
