PTA's Next Film to Continue Shooting Until January 2025!

July 16, 2024 Jordan Ruimy

Paul Thomas Anderson’s latest film started production on January 22, 2024. The film, shooting under the working titles ‘BC Project’ and ‘Desert Highway’ has continued filming ever since, mostly in California and Texas. The project is being shot on 35mm film using VistaVision cameras.

I’m hearing that the shoot is far from over, we have “at least” another 5 months left before things wrap up on this one. It’s set to continue production until January/February 2025. I’ve also heard that the whole cast hasn’t been announced yet, and additional actors are set to be revealed in the coming months.

So far, set to star in PTA’s film are Leonardo DiCaprio, Regina Hall, Benicio Del Toro, Sean Penn, Alana Haim, Teyana Taylor, Wood Harris, Shayna McHale and Chase Infiniti. The film is scheduled to be released on August 8, 2025, by Warner Bros.

An online source recently alleged that PTA’s latest acquired the rights to Thomas Pynchon’s 1990 novel “Vineland,” and that the film is said to contain elements of the novel but is not a 1:1 adaptation.

The most recent footage had the cast and crew shooting in the El Paso, Texas. Although the budget has been reported to be $100M, Jeff Sneider recently made the claim that it might be closer to $175M.

Warner Bros greenlit PTA’s latest. The film is said to be PTA’s most “mainstream” film to date. What we’ve seen so far, via on-set leaks, is that the project will be heavy on action; with lots of car chases, street riots, and explosions.

Jonny Greenwood will compose the film's score, this will be his sixth collaboration with PTA. However, his participation might be up in the air now given that Greenwood was recently hospitalized in the ICU for “emergency treatment” and has canceled his current tour due to these complications. The musician got “seriously ill” from an infection. No further details have been revealed. We wish him well and a speedy recovery.
