Lea Seydoux to Star in Luca Guadagnino's Next Film, ‘Separate Rooms' [Updated]

April 3, 2024 Jordan Ruimy

UPDATE 04.03.24 — Lea Seydoux has joined the cast.

UPDATE 03.25.24 — Last Monday, I was the only U.S. outlet to report that Luca Guadagnino’s next project might be this one. Now, we have word that Josh O’Connor is in talks to star in Guadagnino’s gay romance film “Separate Room.” It’s being tipped as the filmmaker’s next film.

From what I gathered, the script was written by an Italian screenwriter and might be shot in Italian. O’Connor was last seen in another film from Italy, Alice Rohrwacher’s “La Chimera.” He knows the language well. He’ll most likely be playing the German musician in “Separate Rooms.”

EARLIER 03.18.24 — Luca Guadagnino already has two films set for release this year, “Challengers” and “Queer.” However, he’s not stopping, keeping himself busy for, at least, the next few years.

According to a report from Il Fatto Quotidiano , Guadagnino might already be eyeing his next film which would be an adaptation of Pier Vittorio Tondelli’s Italian cult novel “Separate Rooms.”

Published in 1989, and Tondelli’s last novel, who died in 1991, the novel recounts three moments in the life of a writer in his early thirties, Leo, struggling with the enormous pain and loss of his partner, Thomas, a young German musician. Their relationship is told via continuous flashbacks.

No word yet on whether this will be Guadagnino’s next film, after the two he releases in 2024, but he’s already involved in numerous other projects, including “The Shards” for HBO, the “Call Me By Your Name” sequel, and his adaptation of “The Lord of the Flies.”
