Box-Office: ‘Kung-Fu Panda 4' Barely Tops ‘Dune 2'

UPDATE: The final numbers are in and ‘Panda’ ($30M) beat ‘Dune 2’ ($29.1M) by a mere $900,000 this weekend. The good news is that people are going to theaters, and the latest ‘Ghostbusters’ will likely continue that trend next weekend.

EARLIER: There is no clear #1 at the box-office this weekend. The fight for the top spot will be between “Kung Fu Panda 4” and “Dune: Part Two” — both are projected to earn around $30 million weekends. ‘Dune 2’ is going to be hitting $500 million worldwide on Sunday evening. Meanwhile, “The American Society of Magical Negroes,” playing in 1147 venues, is bombing hard. It’s only expected to make $1.2 million.
