‘Madame Web’ First Reviews Call It “Embarrassing" And A “Clunky, Poorly-Written [Mess]" — 16% on Rotten Tomatoes

February 13, 2024 Jordan Ruimy

The first reactions for “Madame Web” have leaked online and they’re not good. They’re almost all overwhelmingly negative. I decided to catch ‘Bob Marley’ instead of this one last night …

The review embargo lifted this morning at 9am ET and it’s mostly getting panned — 15% on Rotten Tomatoes with 67 reviews logged in, so far.

Cris Parker:

“Madame Web” is an embarrassing mess. Talented stars wasted on probably the worst comic book movie I have ever seen. Filled with atrocious dialogue, awkward editing, & all around laughable structure. I sat there baffled scene by scene someone approved this. The memes will redeem it

The Hollywood Handle:

“Madame Web” is a clunky, poorly-written, messy, and sloppy movie packed with some mediocre editing and performances. Even though it had solid cinematography and an interesting concept, it couldn't be saved due to its terrible execution.

When you decided to hire the writers behind “Morbius” then you reap what you sow.

A ludicrous trailer, the only one for “Madame Web,” was released late last year. Almost every moment, every line of dialogue, could be mocked. It became a source for memes. Also, Dakota Johnson’s line delivery, especially her voice-over, was laughably stale — she sounded like she had problems reading her lines.

Then again, it’s hard to complain about a movie that features Sydney Sweeney and Dakota Johnson throwing punches in spandex. “Madame Web” is theatrically released on February 14, 2024.
