Lynne Ramsay's ‘Stone Mattress' Might Shoot in “Late 2024"

November 26, 2024 Jordan Ruimy

Scottish filmmaker Lynne Ramsay has only directed four films in 24 years, including “Ratcatcher,” “Morvern Callar,” and “We Need to Talk About Kevin.”

Ramsay recently wrapped production on “Die, My Love,” starring Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson, which will certainly be released next year. However, it turns out that she’s already working on her next film after that, and that it could be shot very soon.

In a recent interview, Ramsay confirms she is already scouting locations for “Stone Mattress,” a long-gestating project of hers that’s set to star Julianne Moore and Sandra Oh. Not just that, but the film could start shooting in the next few months (via The Playlist).

Based on the Margaret Atwood’s novel, “Stone Mattress” is described as a “revenge thriller” set on a cruise ship. and centering on a cat-and-mouse game between two women; Moore plays a psychopath “with a clear motive.”

However, Ramsay isn’t stopping there. She has a THIRD film that she’s working on, titled “Polaris,” which already has Joaquin Phoenix attached to star as an Ahab-life figure. Set in the 1890s. Phoenix is said to play an ice photographer who meets the devil in Alaska. Ramsay describes the film as “Rosemary’s Baby in the Arctic.”

Ramsay’s last film was 2017’s “You Were Never Really Here,” also starring Phoenix, which garnered raves at Cannes. But that’s seven years ago. Ramsay is now trying to make up for lost time with “Die, My Love,” “Stone Mattress” and “Polaris.”
