Jacob Elordi Joins Guillermo del Toro’s ‘Dr. Frankenstein,’ Replacing Andrew Garfield

January 7, 2024 Jordan Ruimy

Here’s an exclusive from Showbiz411’s Roger Friedman. It’s a big one. Friedman’s sources are saying that Andrew Garfield has dropped out of Guillermo del Toro’s “Dr. Frankenstein” and been replaced by, Mr. bathwater himself, Jacob Elordi.

Garfield is out due to scheduling conflicts. He has a lot of back-to-back projects, including playing scientist Carl Sagan. Meanwhile, Elordi, who was mostly known for HBO’s “Euphoria,” is coming off “Priscilla” and “Saltburn.” He’s a major star in the making.

Del Toro is supposed to start shooting “Dr. Frankenstein” sometime this Spring, I’m hearing late February or early March. Elordi would join a talented cast that already includes Oscar Isaac, Christoph Waltz and Mia Goth.

After teaming up with Netflix for “Pinocchio” and “Cabinet of Curiosities,” del Toro will again be working with the streaming giant for this long-gestating passion project of his.

Set in 19th century Eastern Europe, the film tells the story of Dr. Pretorious, who needs to track down Frankenstein's monster — who is believed to have died in a fire forty years before — in order to continue experiments on him.

“The fact is I’ve been dreaming of doing a ‘Frankenstein’ movie since I was a child,” Del Toro told ComingSoon back in 2008. His dream will soon be realized.

Del Toro is known to have many collectibles of Boris Karloff as the monster and has been developing this project for over a decade. The closest he got to making the film was in 2018, but soon after Universal Pictures scrapped the entire thing due to their planned monster-verse movies bombing at the box-office.

Del Toro’s last film was 2022’s “Pinocchio,” which won him the Oscar for Best Animated Film. His last live-action project was 2021’s “Nightmare Alley.”
