‘Oppenheimer’ Projected to Gross Close to $1 Billion Worldwide

August 28, 2023 Jordan Ruimy

Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” is the #1 movie at the worldwide box-office. This past weekend it dethroned “Barbie” as the current highest grosser. Unbelievable. This film has LEGS.

It a 3-hour, black/white movie based purely on dialogue. The ‘Barbenheimer’ phenomenon helped it a lot. There is no reason to believe “Oppenheimer” would have made even half as much without its partner in crime, “Barbie.”

There’s even better news for Nolan’s film: it’s getting released in China on Wednesday, where it’s been trending for days on that country’s social media, Weibo. In fact, Nolan has been in China since last week, promoting his film and working hard to push it well into the billion dollar mark.

The latest projections have “Oppenheimer” ending its worldwide run at $950 million. It’s currently at $810 million. Nolan’s film is already the second highest grossing R-rated film in history — “Joker” is at #1 with $1.07 billion in receipts.
