On Wednesday — its 34th day in release — Greta Gerwig’s ”Barbie” passed “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” as the high-grossing domestic box office release of 2023.
Barbie’s North American tally now stands at $575.4 million. Super Mario Bros, from Universal and Illumination, finished with $574.3 million domestically, a feat it reached in 140 days.
With that being said, ‘Super Mario Bros’ is still the top earner of the year globally with a worldwide total of $1.36 billion. “Barbie” has a current global total of $1.3 billion and is projected to overtake Super Mario in a few weeks.
