A24’s “Past Lives” continued its strong box-office performance this past weekend, even cracking the top 10. Its $520,000 gross, a $20,000 per-theater average, is the best second-week expansion since “Everything Everywhere All at Once.” Director Celine Song is not a household name, neither are her actors, so this is impressive as it’s being driven exclusively by reviews. It was quite the strategy for A24 to open this one outside of awards season, let’s see how it does as it becomes more mainstream — it’s supposed to be released in the rest of the country these next two weeks.
