‘Ocean’s Eleven’ Prequel Filming This Month in Europe

June 8, 2023 Jordan Ruimy

I’m begging Hollywood to invite writers and producers with fresh ideas. It seems like we’re in reboot/remake hell this decade.

The “Ocean’s Eleven” prequel is set to begin filming this month with Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling starring in the lead roles. Yes, the same lead actors as Gerwig’s “Barbie.”

This one will be directed by Jay Roach (“Meet the Parents”), The screenplay was penned by Carrie Solomon. No further cast details were revealed, but Robbie’s really sweeping up all the roles for attractive blondes between 25 - 45. She's attached to everything.

AP is reporting that this will be an old-fashioned love story set during the 1962 Monaco Grand Prix. Robbie and Gosling play a couple who rob a shipping magnate’s yacht.

It is described as an “epic love story / adventure disguised as a heist” and is inspired by Hitchcock’s “To Catch A Thief” and “Notorious.”

The story is said to incorporate elements of the original Soderbergh-directed films. Puck’s Matt Beloni is also saying that apparently this one will have the biggest budget of the ‘Ocean’s’ franchise.

The most commercially successful, and the best, of the ‘Ocean’s’ films was always the first one. The first sequel, 2004’s “Ocean's Twelve”, was a hot meta mess, with the final film, 2007’s “Ocean's Thirteen,” going back to the formula of the first one.

Remember the all-female spin-off titled “Ocean's 8”? You’re not alone, not many seem to remember that one. It was enough of a dud that Warner decided to axe that cast and start over. I bet this prequel will pretend it never existed.
